HOW TO FIND A LAWYER

Most people find a lawyer by asking someone they trust, who has had a similar problem in the particular area of law. The advisor will state whether they were satisfied with their lawyer and whom they recommend.

Lawyers are also rated by rating services such as Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, which can be found in most lawyers’ offices and libraries.

Lawyers in each area of law also have networks based on memberships in associations, experience, and paid networks. If you trust a lawyer in one area, he may be able to recommend a lawyer in another area.

At the back of the list of lawyers in the yellow pages are advertisements of lawyers in particular fields of law. The advertisements may disclose location, years of practice, and something about their qualifications. Other advertisements such as web sites, newspapers, television, and billboards may provide information about areas of interest and qualifications.

Each local bar association has a referral service, or the location of a referral service, which can give you the name of a lawyer in your geographic area who is interested in a particular field of law. The advantage is that you will be given the name of a lawyer who is interested in your field of law. The disadvantage is that the names of the lawyers interested in that field of law are given out by the bar association in rotation.

If you do not know much about a lawyer who is recommended, you may want to check the rating of the lawyer.
